Christmas gala dinner for lonely elderly people 2018

On Tuesday December 18th, the third edition of the annual Christmas gala dinner for lonely elderly people took place. The dinner was organized by the ‘Leef je Uit’ Foundation and Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG). A group of 120 elderly were welcomed on the SS Rotterdam for a special evening out.

A tasteful three course dinner was served while the elderly enjoyed several musical performances, including a performance of Lee Towers. Speeches were given by Michel Perridon, founder of the foundation and Trust International B.V., and Ronald Lughthart, CEO of RWG. Among the guests was Sven de Langen, Alderman of the City of Rotterdam, minister of Public Health, Care, Elderly & Sports. Volunteers of the foundation and RWG accompanied the elderly and talked with them as table hosts during the dinner.

In 2016, RWG signed a multiannual cooperating agreement with Leef je Uit. The foundation has since 2015 been committed to combat solitude amongst the elderly by organizing trips. RWG tries to contribute to the wellbeing of lonely elderly people. Christmas is a time of getting together. Nobody should feel lonely to begin with, but especially not during the holidays. The goal of this yearly recurring Christmas gala dinner is to give special attention to lonely elderly people.
