Ronald Lugthart appointed as Chairman of the RWG Board

On June 21st 2018, Ronald Lugthart joined the Board of Directors of Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) and appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). RWG’s shareholders DP World, CMA-CGM, APL, HMM en MOL appointed Ronald Lugthart also as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Until now he held the position of managing director.

In his new job role Lugthart will, on behalf of the Board of Directors, mainly engage in the strategy, the further expansion and the positioning of RWG into a leading container terminal in the Hamburg – Le Havre Range. The innovative and highly automated terminal, which opened in September 2015, is now running on almost full capacity. In addition to a possible expansion of RWG, the focus will also be on efficient and flexible multimodal container handling from and to the European hinterland. Smart logistic solutions, such as the Ruhr Express to the German hinterland, the concept with the City Gate Maasvlakte in Rotterdam and the West Brabant Corridor contribute to a more efficient handling and have significantly reduced peaks at the terminal.

Ronald Lugthart was Managing Director of RWG since June 2012. In this position he was responsible for the development, the set-up of the organization and the start-up of the terminal. Besides he was  in charge of the daily management of the terminal, reporting to the Board of Directors, consisting of RWG’s shareholders.

In the new situation, the day-to-day operation of the terminal remains in the hands of the management team, who continue to report to Lugthart.
